Updates/Information:

Hillingdon Reading Champions Programme

The Hillingdon Reading Champions Programme was recently launched with 14 of our primary schools taking part. The programme, designed by Global Education Services in conjunction with Herts for Learning, will see the participants undertake a rigorous two term training programme, based around a blended learning model which includes visits to a range of exemplar schools in Greater London.

A selection of modules from the programme include:

  • Reading Leadership within and across school settings
  • The pedagogy of outstanding phonics teaching and learning
  • Developing a self-sustaining reading culture
  • Performance coaching and leadership skills
  • Monitoring, evaluating and adapting provision

With a focus firmly based on the creation of outstanding pedagogy and highly effective reading leadership, participants will, on successful completion of the course be in a position to lead a 'Reading Hub' in their setting and act as the Reading Champion providing advice and training for colleagues in schools that form part of their 'Hub'. The course will be accredited by Brunel University.

There are two remaining spaces on the programme so if you have colleagues in your setting that would like to join the programme, please email education@hillingdon.gov.uk requesting a place. The programme is fully funded.

Childminders Needed

Since the pandemic the number of trained childminders has significantly dropped across the borough. Add to this the need for more wrap around care and the changes in childcare funding we are now facing a 'crunch' point. At Learn Hillingdon we offer Childminding Training including support from the Childminding team within the Local Authority.

Introduction to Childminding is an 8-week course to help prospective childminders understand about the course, which includes:

·       Safeguarding and welfare, including the new EYFS Framework and ELG's

·       Observation and assessment and planning for development opportunities

·       Planning for their business

·       Planning for registration and initial Ofsted visit

The course starts Tuesday 23rd April (online) 6.30 pm - 9.30 pm.

Becoming a childminder offers:

·       Flexible working hours that suit you and your family

·       Working from your own home

·       Making a positive impact for children, parents and the wider community

For more information, including how to attend one of the childminding briefings, please email tdonnelly@hillingdon.gov.uk
