The Social Worker
The Social Worker
Every Looked After Child has an allocated Social Worker from the local authority. It is the role of the social worker to ensure adequate arrangements are made for the child's care and that a care plan is made and updated based on the most up-to-date assessment of their needs. Children's social workers are responsible for ensuring that the care plan is implemented and reviewed.
A key role of the social worker is to coordinate the provision of services and support, and they should ensure the foster carer or children's home:
- Has all the information they need to care for the child
- Is included in meetings about the plan for the child
- Agrees an up-to-date placement plan
- Is aware of arrangements for contact with family and friends
- Is invited to, and attends, meetings and appointments regarding the child's education
