Sally Edwards

As an Attendance Support Officer one of our main aims is to improve school attendance through a variety of measures. We work with our allocated schools to highlight, monitor and improve the attendance of those pupils achieving less than 90% overall attendance.

My previous experience was concentrated on providing support to care leavers and vulnerable young people both in a floating support and supported housing capacity. I performed this role for 12 years and the aim was to mentor and support young people in all aspects of independent living.

I am incredibly passionate about the value of education both to ensure academic progress and social development. I believe strongly that all children should have access to education that is appropriate to their age, ability and need. Our work is challenging but rewarding.  I am of the opinion that regular and consistent school attendance improves outcomes for young people. Sometimes School attendance is incredibly difficult for young people for a variety of reasons, in these cases we need to be creative in finding solutions that maximise engagement with education.
