Laura Baldry
School Placement and Admissions Manager
I have worked for the London Borough of Hillingdon for 15 years, 9 of those years have been within the School Placement and Admissions team. My current role as School Placement & Admissions Manager requires me to ensure our statutory duty is met to ensure every child is offered a school place, lead on the arrangements for the statutory in-year fair access protocol, provide expert advice and pro-actively contribute to school places planning for the borough including maintaining accurate records of in-year fair access case work, information about appeals and using local intelligence to highlight significant issues and trends as they arise. This includes liaising with other local authorities to understand the impact of their admissions processes and school places planning arrangements as they may affect Hillingdon.
In addition actively leading and managing the work of the School Placement and Admissions Team to deliver an excellent service to put our residents first and developing and improving the school placement and admissions service to ensure they are efficient and continue to improve and deliver statutory requirements.
From my years within the council, I have built some great partnerships with school leaders, other local authorities, and internal staff. Partnership working with these services is essential to my role and enables me to support our most vulnerable children by ensuring positives outcomes for them.
I have extensive knowledge across all aspects of school admissions, including both Hillingdon's education and central government's policies, ensuring I am up to date with the latest guidance. I believe this enables me to support parents and schools with any challenges they present to me. I constantly strive to improve the outcomes of our children, by ensuring our schools and professionals working with children, have all the tools and knowledge required to support our most vulnerable and at-risk young people.
