Michael Hawkins
Head of Education & Lifelong Learning
I've been a teacher working in London schools since the early 1990s. I originally trained as a teacher of History and English to speakers of other languages (ESOL) and I started my career working in secondary schools in inner London. I have had a range of responsibilities in the schools I have worked, most recently being responsible for improving the quality of teaching and learning. I have worked with lots of schools from Early Years settings to post-16 colleges and I have a good knowledge of most subjects in schools.
I've also worked in advisor roles in Local Authority and was a regional advisor for the North of England. In these roles, I've been responsible for vulnerable groups of children: looked after children, unaccompanied refugee children, children with special educational needs and disabilities and others.
I believe in working together in a supportive way with students, parents and professionals so that children fulfil their potential and have choices and opportunities in how they live their adult lives.
