What is the Youth Council?

Hillingdon Youth Council represents the young people of Hillingdon and provides a voice for young people who live, study or work in the borough.

The Youth Council is made up of young people from across the borough - from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds - who are 11 to 19 years, or up to 25 if a care leaver or with SEND.

The Youth Council works in partnership with the UK Youth Parliament and the London Youth Assembly.

Meetings

Hillingdon Youth Council meetings take place on Mondays, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, at Fountains Mill Young People's Centre, 81 High Street, Uxbridge, UB8 1JR.

The group is involved in a variety of activities, including:

  • Carrying out project work on issues raised by young people
  • Increasing people's understanding of different cultures to reduce racism and racial discrimination
  • Liaising with key people within the council to raise concerns of young people and inform the council's strategic planning and decision-making process
  • Liaising with key agencies that provide services for young people and giving feedback/recommendations on proposed projects
  • Enabling Hillingdon's two members of the UK Youth Parliament to receive feedback from young people, and vice versa
  • Enabling Hillingdon's two members of the London Youth Assembly to receive feedback from young people, and vice versa

Why become a member?

It may sound like the Hillingdon Youth Council is a very formal group and only for the most politically minded, but it's not. Most members join because they want to show adults what young people think, want and what they can achieve. Young people find that being part of the Youth Council helps them develop their skills, self-confidence and make friends whilst having fun.
