Household Support Fund - Winter

The government has recently announced the details of a Household Support Fund.  The fund is available to support households in most need with food, energy, and water bills this winter, as well as help with the cost of other essentials, including meeting exceptional housing costs.  The scheme started on 6th October 2021 and ends on 31st March 2022, inclusive.

Hillingdon children eligible for free school meals will receive £15 per week per child in vouchers for the school holidays (4 weeks covering October half-term, the Christmas break and February half-term).  Families with eligible children will be contacted directly by the Council by email with details of how to redeem their voucher(s).  The details for eligible children have come from schools and therefore if you have children at your school who are newly eligible, please let us know so we can make the necessary arrangements to send them vouchers.

In addition to children, if you know of an adult or a family who you feel would benefit from the household support fund, please let us know.

Please find attached the latest GREEN safety alert which is applicable to all school headteachers. The alert follows a recent court case where an Academy Trust failed to properly control the risk from zoonotic diseases to employees,  pupils and visitors at one of its schools. Mandatory Exploitation Awareness Training for Hillingdon DSLs

This year Hillingdon has introduced mandatory training for all DSLs on exploitation. This is recognising the ongoing concern regarding the exploitation of children & young people, including an increase in concerns regarding primary age children. The updated KCISE (2021) has highlighted the need for schools to be alert to the risk factors regarding different types of exploitation and youth violence and this will also be a focus from Ofsted when looking at Safeguarding in your setting.

The training will be run by Phil Skidmore from Axis and will provide DSLs with an overview of CCE & county lines, CSE, Serious Youth Violence, gang affiliations/culture and missing episodes including current trends and themes in Hillingdon and nationally, signs & indicators for school staff to look out for and what to do. The session will also cover the role of Axis and the work they do in diverting young people away from exploitation and onto a better path highlighting the importance of schools in this area and the key to information sharing.

The aim of the session will be to increase DSLs awareness in this area and to support DSLs to disseminate this information to all school staff (additional resources will be shared to support in this).

The next session will be on:

Tuesday 2nd November 2pm-3pm (Via MS Teams) - Focus for Secondary Settings

The session is free of charge.

As the training is mandatory we are asking that all Hillingdon DSLs attend as a minimum (also open to DDSLs/headteachers/pastoral staff).

Please could you email Hannah Ives, hives@hillingdon.gov.uk to let her know you will be attending and a link will then be sent out to you prior to the session.

Updated DfE Senior Mental Health Lead Training

Schools and colleges can apply for a senior mental health lead training grant. This updated gov.uk guidance explains what the training covers, who it's intended for, how to apply for a grant, and how to access a DfE quality assured course.

Schools and colleges who booked a course on or before the application system went live on 11th October 2021 now have until 25th October to claim one of the grants the DfE guaranteed to reserve for eligible schools and colleges booking a course early.

All other eligible schools and colleges intending to book a course this financial year can also apply for a grant. The DFE's guarantee to reserve a grant for those booking a course early has now ended, and we encourage settings to apply for a grant before they book a course.

Sufficient grants are available for around a third of all state schools and colleges this financial year, as part of the government's commitment to offer this training to all eligible schools and colleges by 2025. Grants will be allocated on a first come, first served basis until we have issued all available funds.

Armistice Day 2020

Remembrance maroons will be launched from 11 sites across the borough on the 11th of November 2021 at 11:00 and 11:02 to mark the start and finish of the two-minute silence.  The maroons do make a bang which can be very loud if the site happens to be close to your school so you may wish to let your students know to expect it.

Allied Health Careers Promotion in Hillingdon - Your Chance to Shape Resources

Hillingdon Health and Care Partners (HHCP) aim to improve care for Hillingdon residents through a joined-up, integrated approach across health care providers. Our Workforce Team is developing a free educational package to market to local schools/colleges as a means of promoting careers in the Allied Health Professions (e.g. Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Paramedic Science) whilst building a local workforce for the future.

We would appreciate if you could take 10 minutes to complete this survey to help shape the resources we will offer your students.

https://brunel.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/hhcp_ahp_schoolssurvey

We will use your answers to find out what is important to local educational settings when it comes to careers resources in order to tailor resources to you. We want to establish what provision is already in place, what you'd like to be in place and what formats work for your students. There will also be an opportunity for you to suggest any ideas that you may have.

The survey closes on 31st December 2021 and we will be in touch in early 2022 with some exciting developments! For more information, please contact: victoria.stewart1@nhs.net.  Thank you for your support.

Feedback from the last training session:

It provides an excellent platform to ensure that Governors AND Headteachers remain up to date with best practice and processes and there were a number of things that I wasn't even aware of; hence the PowerPoint presentation is warmly appreciated for ongoing future reference.

Getting processes right in the first instance is crucial and this is an excellent starting point for my role as a Foundation Governor.

The training session was an excellent introduction to Governorship.

As a first time attendee, I found the whole content useful and interesting

Good session, engaging, and lots of useful information and tips to ensure HT reviews and performance mgmt are done correctly.

Good overview and the questions and responses from both newer governors as well as experienced governors was also enlightening
