Teachers' Choir CPD Sessions

Hillingdon Music Service is running a CPD course in Choir Leading for School music teachers (primary and secondary) between February and May.

This course is aimed at teachers leading or wishing to lead group singing for students and would be suitable for teachers new to choir direction or looking to improve their confidence/brush up their skills.

Led by a singing expert from ABRSM Voices, teachers will participate in a 2hr practical session as a 'Teacher's Choir'.

  • Participants will also be given time for Q&A and discussion around best practice.
  • Repertoire used by the group will also be provided to participating teachers to use as resources in school.
  • Sessions are discrete, so teachers can attend 1 or both sessions

Music CPD - Supporting Non-specialist Music Teachers

Thursday 20 March 2025 at 3.45 pm, for a prompt start at 4 pm (1 hr).

Venue: Harlyn School

Emily Griggs, the music specialist teacher at the Music Service's recently appointed "Lead Primary School for Music", is very experienced in teaching the primary school music curriculum and is running this session to support non-specialists who would welcome some CPD, to improve their music teaching/leadership. The session will focus on understanding key musical vocabulary and how to explore the elements (interrelated dimensions) through notation. We will look at different ways to present music when playing or composing, showing clear progression over time through key stages 1 and 2.

Please do not hesitate to contact rporter@hillingdon.gov.uk with any questions regarding the above or suggestions for future CPD.

Vocational Carousel

Following the SEND Ofsted and CQC Inspection in our local area, we are working with settings to develop more vocational opportunities for our Hillingdon residents including those with SEND.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could promote these opportunities among pupils with SEND in your schools as we currently have 12 spaces available. The provision will only pay for the weeks the students attend, not for any missed weeks. There are still spaces available across the Carousel, and SEND learners are welcome to attend any course of their choice, not just those specifically designed for SEND.

Thank you for your support in encouraging more students to participate in these valuable opportunities.

SEND Young People's Voice Survey

Posters advertising the survey were sent out to all secondary schools last week to place in an area where young people with SEND are likely to see it.  The poster can also be shared with parents/carers via your communication channels. Feedback received will support future planning.

Click here  for the survey. We will be drawing out a winner of a £20 Amazon Voucher in the next few weeks so please keep sharing the link.
