Hillingdon Education Conference

We have made the decision, in consultation with Headteachers, to postpone the conference that was planned for 12th July, as a result of the Prime Minister's announcement last week. We are in the process of organising a date in September and, once confirmed, we will share the new date with Headteachers shortly.

Head Teachers' Termly Presentations

Thank you to all of the Head Teachers who were able to attend the meeting last Thursday. We are still in the process of collating the slides from the presentation and we will endeavour to send these out to all Head Teachers shortly.

School Admissions Code 2021 Changes - Urgent Variation Required

The government has proposed some changes to the School Admissions Code (Code) which aim to improve support for the in-year admission of vulnerable children and help reduce to a minimum any gaps in their education.

The proposed draft was laid before Parliament on 13 May 2021 for a 40-day period. During this period, the House of Commons and the House of Lords will have the opportunity to review the Code and any Member can pass a motion to not approve it. The 40-day period is due to expire on 1 July 2021.

The proposal for the new School Admissions Code requires children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted to be given equal first priority in admission arrangements, alongside looked after children (LAC) and children who were previously looked after by English local authorities (PLAC). This advice refers to these children as internationally adopted previously looked after children - "IAPLAC."

This new provision will necessitate variations to determined admission arrangements to take effect from 1 September 2021. Admission authorities will need to vary their admission arrangements for 2021/22 (which would have been determined by 28 February 2020) and their admission arrangements for 2022/23 (which would have been determined by 28 February 2021). Without these variations, admission arrangements that have already been determined will no longer comply with the Code from this date.

Please review these   documents [235KB] to better understand what this means for your school. The Local Authority (LA) have also supplied a template document for own admission authorities (non-community schools) to support Governing Bodies to act in compliance with this legal variation. Please keep the approved document on record to evidence that your school have legally agreed a variation.

Maths Hub - Spaces Available

Each Maths Hub is seeking to recruit schools to join the Work Groups for this programme. A school's participation involves teachers from each of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 (in one-form entry schools), the maths subject lead, and the headteacher. In small schools, there may be just one or two participating class teachers. In larger, multi-form schools, it is expected that lead teachers support colleagues in Reception and KS1 to adopt the same approach in their classes, to ensure consistency across the school.

Please see  here [200KB]  for further information and  application form [661KB] .

Letter to Secondary School & College Parents from Gavin Williamson

Please see attached link here for the letter Gavin Williamson has recently released regarding continuing regular COVID-19 testing. Please share with your parents in order for them to be aware of the importance of regular testing.

Thank you

Thank you to all of the schools who shared our packed lunch survey with parents. We are pleased to share we have had over 1300 responses, which is excellent. These will help us to better support parents with healthy eating.

Regards,

Dan Kennedy
